Journey: My A-Level Exam Piece

Finally! My long overdue post on my A-level work! I feel like since it has been so long since I promised to post this I have now built up this work into sounding like something astounding when in actuality it really is just my first piece of work that I have completed that I am seriously happy with.

Anyway for our exam piece we had to chose a theme and create some artwork based on this theme, we could do a maximum of 5 photos. I chose to do 5 photos and did a narrative based around the theme reading, For my photos I had a little girl pose in a way that I would be able to make a composite and have her placed on a smaller paper airplane.  I shall post the pictures below:

I was trying to express how through books you could go on a journey. I was focusing more on the adventurous genre of books with my piece. I wanted to show how, despite feeling sure of a book, you may find that it surprises you and changes dramatically. To represent this I had the little girl hanging off a plant after accidentally crashing her small paper airplane, despite the fact that she was able to fly smoothly for the whole of her trip. To edit this piece I used the selective brush tool to select what I needed of the girl and then with an eraser did some finer changes with a graphics tablet to get a perfect cut-out.  After this I was then able to manipulate it or edit it as much as I wanted after placing the cut-out on the paper airplane. There was not much else to do after this, everything else is natural and original in this picture.

I must say at the time I was absolutely ecstatic after finishing this piece. I definitely thought that this was the best piece I had produced, until now. Looking back on these pictures I can see places where I can improve on this picture and also my location, execution, theme, outfit could all had more control applied to it. I am thinking of doing a series of miniaturised pictures at some point in the future, to take what I have learned and apply this to a new series. Hopefully this attempt will be a significant improvement in comparison to my last attempt but we will have to just wait and see. Anyway that is all for this blog post, I hope to do some food photography photos soon so hopefully there will be a new experiment to share with you all soon, until then I shall bid you all adieu!
